Lonely Planet author Erin Richards lived, worked and even got married in Amsterdam. It’s a lot more than the lure of the red light district and the business hub. Relax like a local, spend hours by the canal, cycle around and head off for a night at a brown café. Why are they brown again? Produced by Lonely Planet TV

Oh, don’t be offended. I grew up in Luxemburg, which is unbelieveable provincial;-) Amsterdam is nice with its canals and narrow streets. But after two years Amsterdam I can say cities like Barcelona, Cologne or Berlin are much more “metropolian”, because they have more more room for beginning artists and creative subcultures. There is much more going on, and especially the nightlive is much better in those cities. But, as I said, Amsterdam is also nice (for a while).

@Zoza15 ik vind rotterdam nou niet bepaald een mooie stad, ik hou van oude architectuur wat naar mijn mening een sfeer creërt (tuurlijk is dit allemaal de schuld van de duitsers)..
dat mis ik in rotterdam

@luxembourger
Provincial???
It’s the biggest city of Holland, and has been built full. What is there provincial about it?

Amsterdam is pretty nice but a little too “provincial” for me. But in compare to the other dutch cities I was it’s still probably the best. I worked there for almost two years and then my office moved to Berlin. Berlin is so unbelieveable much more exiting, cooler and somehow “easier” to have a spontaneous good time.
