Africa is an exciting and intriguing continent that offers small, hidden villages to large modern cities. This continent is home to 49 individual countries with 840 million people, or approximately 12 percent of the world’s population. Let’s take a look at some of the interesting facts about this enchanting continent.
The population is made up of many different tribes and people groups. Each tribe and people group has its own distinct way of living. Their culture and customs are all different. Each country has its own indigenous people, plus different ethnic groups that have arrived over the years.
There are more pyramids in Sudan than in any other country of the world, including Egypt. There are 223 in Sudan. These incredible structures are enormous with extremely steep sides. They measure 75 to 100 feet tall.
One of the most interesting countries on the continent is Libya. This country is mostly desert. Deserts cover 90 percent of the country, and are rich in petroleum deposits. This has made Libya the ninth richest country on the continent.

Children will enjoy knowing that the world’s largest frog, known as the Goliath frog, is found in Cameroon and Equitorial Guinea. Its body measures 12 inches long, and if you stretch it out, it can be up to 30 inches long. Do you realize that is the size of most house cats? This frog is unique in that it can jump as far as 10 feet, but it doesn’t make any noises. When they are born, they are the same size as other species of tadpoles.
One of the most exciting continents in the world is Africa. Its teeming wild life and intriguing Safaris have made it a popular vacation spot. It’s a place that still attracts adventurers.
