Texas electricity leads the way for electric deregulation. This is a way customers can have a choice in the power provider they choose. This means they do not have to choose one company or choose no power at all. In parts of Texas people will have the choice of electric companies to serve their home and business.
People might find better deals or plans that will fit their requirements compared to the provider they use now. But if people are happy with who they use then they need not change. But it is good to know that you can change if you want to.
You might find a provider that will allow you to lock in a rate that is better than your current price. So you might want to take advantage of that. You will want to check back with a possible provider to see if there is a new plan available.
Your current provider may not run regular deals so you might want to take advantage of specials from other companies. But check to see if you have a contract with a cancellation fee. If you have one then you might want to wait until the contract period is finished before you cancel.
If not then you will want to wait until you contract expires and then make the change. The bottom line is that if the consumer has a choice of power providers then this increase competition. Competition usually results in better service and better pricing for the consumer.
Until now the power providers have operated in a monopoly charging as much as the government lets them charge. And believe this they never charge a penny less than what the government allows.
This is the first step towards you paying less for your power. The deregulation of the power companies is something you can voice your support for. Use your power to choose today and lower your energy bill.
