Every garage needs a door. There are a few different types of styles on the market to make it convenient for you to do your own garage installation.
These doors do need sufficient space to store. Since they store on the ceiling, the garage needs to be larger that the dimensions of the door itself, both in length and width. These doors offer more space inside the garage by allowing you to park flush in front of them since they all open outwards and go up.
The first type is the retractable door. They are one piece of material that open with a pivot point on the top of the unit. These are the easiest to automate so that you can use a remote to open and close.
Sectionals are another kind and are made of 4 parts. These are said to be the most durable and the most secure. They are often made of metal but come in kits so they still install quite easily. They are panels and follow the contour of the tracks that they are on. This means that they go straight up and down and won’t hit anything upon opening.
Canopy doors are similar to
retractable ones but differ because they close leaving 1/3 of the door sticking outside. This leaves a lip that could be convenient to literally use as a canopy for work outside during the rain. It comes as one piece and opens by flipping up, meaning that you will need space in front of this door to open it.
It is important to think about the material of your door as well. You can buy in steel, aluminum, fiber glass and wood. Steel is the most expensive with the highest level of security. Make sure that you buy a kit that is treated for rust. Aluminum and fiber glass are cheaper and work just fine, but are a bit more fragile so you will have to take care. Wood is by far the best looking door, coming in all different types of wood and stains. There is upkeep though in terms of painting from year to year.
Whatever the door you choose, you can do all these garage installations yourself. You can buy kits that have easy instructions and it shouldn’t take more than an afternoon.
