Journey with Dave as he travels to Athens, GA to talk with Dr. Allan Armitage. Dr. Armitage has been working at the University of Georgia Athens testing and introducing new plants for our gardens and patios. Each new plant is evaluated for foliage, flowers, sun tolerance, heat resistance, and ease of care. Next in this episode Dave discovers The Oregon Garden in Silverton, Oregon, which is a showcase of the plants and crops of Oregon. Within its 80 acres are 20 specialty gardens including the Conifer Garden and Northwest Garden along with the White Oak Woodland seen today. The Oregon Garden is also part of an innovative partnership with the city of Silverton to treat and reclaim waste water using a natural filtration system of ponds and water gardens. In this episode of Garden Travels, Dave’s favorites include: Thalictrum and Silene.
