Ah, winter! Shoveling snow ’til your back aches, runny noses, and depressing weather. Holed up in your own house? Imagine trading your boots and mitts for shorts and suntan lotion, heading to tropical beaches and being out on a boat angling in sun kissed waters wondering how the other half is living. Suddenly, your rod bends nearly in half and the battle is on. If this sounds exciting to you, a Costa Rica fishing vacation could be something for you!

Sure, you can fish on a little frozen lake or stream by your house. Those little crappies and sunnies were fun when you were a kid. Bundling up like Santa Claus and sitting all day over cold ice. Have you sometimes wondered what it would be like to catch a sailfish or giant marlin? Come on down to Costa Rica, you deserve some Costa Rica fishing.

A great place for a Costa Rica fishing vacation is its North Pacific coast. This area is called the “Gold Coast” because of its amenities and is easilyconveniently reached. There is a new international airport at Liberia, Costa Rica, just minutes from the North Pacific Coast and your adventure. You will find the fishing centers of Flamingo and Tamarindo with miles of great beaches and lots of Costa Rica attractions. If you are looking for sailfish, visit this coast between May and August for the best fishing, but these fish are here all year. Between August to October, you might find large schools of tuna with some weighing up to 400 pounds and lots exceeding 60 pounds. Many anglers fish the shoreline-dwelling roosterfish here November to March not far from the Bay of Papagayo. You also have a splendid chance of hooking large marlin, wahoo, and brightly colored dorado fish.

If you are looking for billfish, the spectacular Central Pacific coast is where you should head. Between December to April, travel to Quepos or the Los Suenos Marina for a guided charter to angle in deep offshore waters for big marlin and sailfish. Sometimes, you will also find tuna and other fish as well. The colorful dorado fish can be caught from May through October. If you explore closer to shore, you might find yourself fighting wahoo, roosters, snapper, and snook.

For many, Costa Rica fishing paradise is found on the southern Pacific coast down to Panama, off Puerto Jiminez, Golfo Dulce, and Drake Bay. When when the water is warm, big marlin and sailfish are frequent visitors. Inshore, you will likely run into roosters, large snapper, wahoo, and amberjack. The Golfo Dulce is said by charter operators to offer the finest inland fishing in Costa Rica. This is mostly due to the fact that it contains many small coves and is very rocky, giving fish a great place to hide. There are lots of kinds of fish here, including large groupers, delectable sea bass, and the toothy barracuda. And, at times, you will have thousands of porpoises around your boat as they follow the bait fish.

On the Atlantic coast, you will find the world-famous Tortuguero and Barra del Colorado fishing centers up to the Nicaragua border. The seas here can be very choppy but on a day where the waters are flat, this is a deep sea angler’s dream spot! From/Between May to November, the valuable tarpon fish is bountiful here, and they can attain weights of to two hundred. If you are very fortunate, you might hook. This is also a good area for large snook. Jack Crevalle, guapote, giant grouper, and tripletail can also be caught here. And, do not forget to visit the world famous green sea turtle nesting beaches at Tortuguero.

Costa Rica fishing is justly world famous with its dozens of fishing world records. With two seas from which to choose there are a staggering amount of fish species.     Costa Rica fishing is world famous. There are many different kinds of fish to catch because Costa Rica is bordered by both Pacific and the Caribbean waters. Costa Rica holds dozens of fishing world records. Imagine being out on a boat with your friends in tropical, crystal waters, surrounded by sunshine and fresh air. Sea turtles basking on the surface. Peace and quiet. Suddenly, your line squeals as the sailfish begins battling. If this sounds exciting to you, a Costa Rica fishing vacation could be something for you!
