Whether you have determined that replacing a toilet is your thing, or your hot water heater dies in the middle of the night, don’t panic. Qualified Jacksonville plumbing help is ready and waiting to hear from you.
Once you find a plumber you like, hang on to him! Good plumbers should be treated better than some family members! If a plumber returns a phone call, or even shows up for an appointment, and completes the job without going over the estimate or causing damage to your home (does he wipe his feet before tracking mud all over your carpeting?), you are lucky!
Plumbers usually have their cell phone numbers or beepers listed in their ads and on their websites. Why? Because most of the calls they receive are emergency problems. Either you wanted to try putting in a new toilet by yourself and found out too late that home repair is not your forte, or the pipes burst in a snow storm. Whatever your emergency is, there’s a plumber ready to head on over to clean up after you. If you need help in the middle of the night, be prepared to pay an extra service charge.
So if you decide to do some troubleshooting yourself only to find out that replacing a trap isn’t as easy as it looked on TV, yes, someone will come out at 2:00 AM. It won’t be cheap, though.
One thing to keep in mind, though, in the Jacksonville area is that even though Jacksonville is indeed in Florida, if you’re new to the area you might be surprised to find out that the area does experience some serious cold snaps which include frost and even some light snow. One thing to avoid is lying to him when he shows up! Don’t make him guess what really caused the problem. He’s going to find out, and he’s going to charge you for the time it took him to figure it out. Don’t be embarrassed. He’s heard it all, and he’s seen it all. If you are the one who broke something or loosened a fitting or took off the joint, don’t blame it on the kids or your brother in law.
When he’s done, you might want to think about asking what else might need some attention in your house. This is a good time to plan for future repairs. If he sees a problem with your water heater it might be wise to fix the problem now rather than waiting until your basement is under a foot of water.
