Kenya Safari Travel: The Top Tour Attractions

Kenya is one of the grandest tourism destinations in Africa. When tourism is at peak, over 1.8 million foreign tourists visit yearly. These tourists are the country’s biggest earner of foreign exchange. Kenya has many tourism destinations but there are few unique ones that stand out above the rest.

Home to the Seventh Wonder of the World, the 1530km2 Maasai Mara National reserve from July and November hosts the world renowned wildebeest’s migration spectacle. Due to its rowdy nature, that sees wildebeest cross the crocodile infested Mara River, international tourists pitch camp near the crossing point and wait for days to witness it.

At the Masai Mara, all the “Big Five” wild animals can be seen here including the elephant, rhino, leopard, lion and the buffalo. The best vantage point to see the wild animals is at the Mara River as well as the Esoit Oloololo escarpment. For better views of the creatures, take a hot air balloon tour that can be organize by local tour companies.

The second unique attraction in Kenya is the Lake Bogoria found within the Rift Valley. The lake’s main attraction is the got geysers and springs. The geysers spew hot underground water and its said that one can boil an egg here in minutes! Its said the springs have therapeutic properties good for the skin. Lake Bogoria does not have many visitors and thus its a good place to have picnics. Some of the wild animals that are found here include the hippos and the gazelles plus one hundred and thirty five bird species including the flamingos that feed on the algae found in the surface of the lake.

The city of Mombasa is well known for its sandy white beaches, warm weather and turquoise waters. The warm weather of Mombasa is consistent through the whole year making it an attractions to visitors who want to visit this place any time. Some of the attractions that can be found in Mombasa include the Gedi ruins and the Fort Jesus showing Mombasa ancient history.

For an adrenaline junkie, Nyali is the complete Kite and Wind Surfing destination run by Prosurf Kenya. The undersea Indian Ocean coral reef paradise teems with unique beautiful fish breeds. Dhow trips are offered to visitors wanting to get a feel of ancient maritime ocean excursions.

Seven kilometers from the City Centre, is the 117km2 Nairobi National park, the only park in the world bordering a city. Of the “Big Five” animals, only the elephant misses from this Savannah ecosystem. It’s the ideal destination for visitors on stop over. It has the David Sheldrick trust sanctuary that cares for young orphaned rhinos and elephants. The park has over 80 mammal species and 400 diverse bird species. The park is perfect for family outings, bush dinners, picnics, team building exercises and weddings.

Nairobi National Museum is also another attraction in Kenya worth mentioning. The museum houses many artifacts and national treasures that showcase the history of Kenya. There is a botanical garden where unique plants are grown including medicinal and ornamental plants. The greatest attraction in this park is the snake park that houses cobras as well as mambas. Another interesting snake specie is the African rock python. Its also interesting that you will find American alligators and crocodiles at the aquariums in this place.
