I trust that this, my first piece will be found useful by both novices and experts alike in the tennis world. I am trying to arouse interest in the student of the game of tennis by a somewhat prolonged discussion of match play, which I trust will shed a new light on the game of tennis.
I will turn to the novice in my opening article and write of certain things which are second nature to the experienced tennis player. The best tennis equipment is not much use for the beginner even if he really wants to succeed. Nevertheless, one has to purchase good quality; it is a saving eventually, as good quality goods far outlasts poor quality gear.
It is important to always dress in tennis attire when playing tennis. The question of selecting a tennis racquet is a much more serious matter. I do not advise forcing a certain make of racquet upon any player, since all the standard brands are excellent. However, it is on the weight, balance, and size of handle that the real value of a racquet frame depends, while good stringing is essential to obtain the best results.
After having bought your racquet, make a firm decision to buy only quality tennis balls, as a regular bounce is a great aid to advancement, while a “dead” ball is of no use at all. If you really desire to advance at tennis and progress rapidly, I strongly advise you to watch all the good tennis you can. Study the play of the top players and strive to copy their strokes. Read all the tennis instruction manuals you can find. They are a great assistance.
Much more tennis can be picked up off the tennis court in the study of theory and in watching the best players in action, than can ever be learned in one’s own actual play. I do not advise that you should miss opportunities to play tennis, far from it. Play tennis whenever possible, but try when playing to put into practice the theories you have read about or the strokes you have seen.
Do not allow yourself to become discouraged by slow progress. The trick of playing some stroke you have worked at over weeks in vain, will suddenly come to you when least expected. Good tennis players are the result of hard work. Very few players are born geniuses at the game. Tennis is a game that pays you interest all your life. A tennis racquet is a letter of introduction in any town.
The brotherhood of tennis is universal, since none but a fit sportsman can succeed in the game for any long period of time. Tennis offers relaxation, excitement, exercise, and pure enjoyment to the player who is tied fast to his business until late afternoon.
The following order of development produces the quickest and most lasting results: 1. Concentration on the game. 2. Keep the eye on the ball. 3. Foot-work and weight-control. 4. Strokes. 5. Court position. 6. Court generalship or match play. 7. Tennis psychology.
Concentration. Tennis is played first with the mind. The most perfect racquet technique invented will not be enough if the playing mind is wandering. There are many causes of a wandering mind in a tennis match. The chief one is lack of interest in the game. No one should play tennis with any expectation of real success unless he cares sufficiently about the game to be willing to do the practice necessary to learn the game properly.
Give it up at once unless you are willing to work hard. Conditions of play or the noises in the gallery often confuse and bewilder experienced match-players playing in new surroundings. Complete concentration on the matter in hand is the only cure for a wandering mind, and the quicker the lesson is learned the quicker the improvement of the player.
The best way to keep a match in focus is to try for every set, every game in the set, every point in the game and, eventually, every shot in the point. A set is merely a conglomeration of made and missed shots, and the man who misses the least is the ultimate victor.

When it comes to choosing a screen, the first consideration is the kind of screen you want or even may need. If the room where you are going to set up your home theater is a big one, then you will have to have a home theater projection screen or maybe you just want one anyway.
I, personally, like the idea of having a drop-down screen, but sometimes you have to have one even in a modestly-sized home movie theater. It would convert your living room into a home movie theater. Imagine: you recline in your chair; click the remote and a screen drops down; click another remote and the lights dim; click another one and the film commences!
If you prefer a television screen, then you might be considering purchasing a new one if you can afford it. They say that a 27 inch screen is large enough, but I do not agree. In my opinion, you really need 48-60 inches, but then I am a 50 something year old and my eyes are definitely not what they used to be.
If you are buying a new TV for your home theater, I think you should aim high. HDTV is upon us and since February 2009 the USA is committed to High Definition. So, I would make sure that your new TV is capable of receiving it. Then I suggest that the new home theater screen be a flat one to reduce the annoying glare that could ruin the experience. (This could be another reason for opting for a projection screen).
Finally, you should ensure that your new television has enough input and output plugs for the peripheral equipment you have in mind and you’re done. Therefore, to summarize, I recommend you go for:
At minimum a 27 inch screen
A flat screen
HDTV enabled
Plenty of input and output plugs
Satellite enabled
I would definitely recommend satellite compatibility for the TV receiver because it is the future or even the near future. If you get a satellite television connection you will be able to store HDTV downloads which you can watch on your new home movie theater set-up whenever you like.

Congress and the president have selected ten days as federal holidays. Being ‘federal’, these holidays theoretically only pertain to federal employees and residents of the District of Columbia, although they are so widely observed that they can be thought of as national holidays.
Legally, it is up to each individual state to designate public holidays. If the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Friday before or the Monday after is given in lieu to make a long weekend.
New Year’s Day (January 1) – celebrating the New Year dates back to pre-Christian times, when rites were performed to try to ensure the return of Spring.
Martin Luther King Jnr. Day (third Monday in January) – before he was shot dead in 1968, Martin Luther King Jnr. was the foremost civil rights leader of the 1950′s and 1960′s. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Congress set this day aside to celebrate his life and achievements in 1983.
Washington’s Birthday (third Monday in February) – originally it was celebrated on Washington’s actual birthday, the 22nd of February, but it was moved in 1971 to make a long weekend. It is occasionally known as Presidents’ Day, because it is close to Lincoln’s birthday on the 12th February.
Memorial Day (last Monday in May) – also called Decoration Day, it honours soldiers fallen in battle. It originates from the Civil War and is traditionally marked by parades and services.
Independence Day (4th July) – this, the most significant US holiday, marks the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. It was first celebrated in 1777 and is marked by fireworks, parades and speeches.
Labor Day (first Monday in September) – this, the idea of Peter J. McGuire, the president of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, was taken up in 1894 to honour American workers.
Columbus Day (second Monday in October) – Christopher Columbus and his crew landed in the Bahamas on Oct 12th 1492. It was first commemorated in 1792, although it was not officially adopted until 1909. It is a source of particular pride to Italian-Americans, who claim the Genoan voyager as their own.
Veterans Day (Nov 11th) – or Armistice Day commemorates the end of the First World War on Nov 11th 1918. It was made a legal holiday in 1938, but its name was changed in 1954 to honour all American veteran soldiers.
Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November) – it was first commemorated in Plymouth County, Massachusetts in 1621, the year in which the Pilgrims landed in the New World to give thanks for the new harvest and the new land they had colonized. President Lincoln proclaimed it a holiday in 1863.
Christmas Day (December 25th) – Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Selecting teeth whitening products from the different teeth whitening products available on the market these days can be very confusing. However, some of these teeth whitening products do not give the desired results.
If you asked the experts, they would tell you that the best method of teeth whitening is still obtainable through your dentist. Not only is it the best, but it is also the most effective and the quickest way to have whiter teeth.
But then, not all people can afford the fees that come with such treatment. Another thing that hinders them from going to dentists is fear. It seems that in early childhood, dentists are one of the most feared professions and that children just do not want to have to go to them. This fear continues on into adult years.
Although dentists do not advise people to go for teeth whitening products, they all agree that some of these products are effective in a degree. According to many studies, most teeth whitening products can result in whiter teeth that can out perform any dentist-assisted procedure, if applied according to the instructions.
An additional plus point that teeth whitening products have, is that they contain the same ingredients that are employed in professional whitening. Two of the active ingredients used in whitening teeth are hydrogen peroxide and carbamide. These two chemicals are also the ingredients present in some of the products that are sold in everyday grocery stores and drug stores.
The only advantage that amateur teeth whitening products have over professional whitening is that they tend to be much cheaper. Everyone who learns about them can afford to add them to their list of basic shopping items.
Most of these products can be bought for less than $30. Compare this with the $100 or more that you are charged at the dentist’s surgery. It will not surprise you that most people prefer them over the higher fees. However, teeth whitening products do have some disadvantages. Some of which are:
1. Suitability. Teeth whitening products cater for all, it is true, but then different people have different needs. What some people found effective may not work for others. This is one of the problems that people will encounter with these ‘home’ products.
There are some who have sensitive teeth and gums. Reaction to the products will depend upon the suitability of the products to the people using them. An option would be to try different products until you find the one that suits you.
2. Strong Chemicals Used. You will not know what your reaction to any given product will be until you have tried it out. As you do not know how sensitive your teeth are, you will also not know what will happen when you start using the product. It is better to consult with your dentist first before choosing any product at all.
3. Tray may not fit. The tray used in your mouth is not exactly right to you, so there is a problem that it may be either too big or too small.
If it is too big, the preparation may not work very well. On the other hand, if it is too small, it could cause gum bleeding and other side effects that could cause bigger problems. Be sure that the teeth whitening precuts you choose are suitable for you. If none of them works, then perhaps professional teeth whitening would be better for you.

Your teeth are a very obvious feature of your appearance. Teeth whitening agencies realize this fact, which is why they are encouraging people to whiten their teeth, in order that they may look their best and in order that others will think their general appearance more appealing.
Whitening your teeth can also boost your self confidence. Have you ever noticed those people who smile a lot even to strangers? Notice how easily they radiate warmth just by smiling that Hollywood smile. Sometimes, that smile gets so contagious that you find yourself smiling and feeling better from that time on.
This is the reason why you ought to perfect that smile, so you can do it much more often. One way of perfecting it, is by whitening your teeth. In today’s world where beauty products and facial makeovers are commonplace, you see lots of beautiful people. However, what you will always remember is the colour of their teeth.
You probably think that they are very lucky to have been born with beautiful white teeth like that, but what you do not know is that those teeth are the result of the whitening products and procedures that are available on the market today.
Over-the-counter teeth whitening products are not as expensive as they once were. This may be because of the stiff competition out there. With so many new products appearing almost everyday, it is no wonder that the prices are dropping so rapidly.
Take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Are your teeth as white as they used to be? Do you feel that they could be made even whiter? Are you one of those people that would benefit from having their teeth whitened?
To answer these questions, look at some of these considerations:
1. Methods for teeth whitening. The methods used for teeth whitening can vary on a case-to-case basis. For every individual, there is a method that will suit their different requirements. You can choose veneers instead of bleaching or teeth whitening. The best thing to do is to see your dentist first about what you should do. Your dentist will be able to advise you what will be the best for your needs.
2. Smokers and Caffeine-Addicts. If you are one of those who like to take caffeinated drinks, then you are probably a candidate for teeth whitening. This is the same for people who smoke a lot. The ingredients in caffeinated drinks can discolour your teeth if you have been drinking caffeine for a long time. Tar and nicotine can also discolour teeth quickly.
By having your teeth whitened or by continuously using whitening toothpaste, you can minimize the effects that these things will bring about on your teeth. Prolonged and regular use will definitely help delay the quick discoloration of your teeth.
3. Sensitive teeth and gums. Your teeth and gums might not be able to tolerate the chemical contents of whitening products. If you suspect you have sensitive teeth, it is best to delay using whitening products until you have asked your dentist first.
If you have a sensitive mouth, but are still serious about having your teeth whitened, then you had better get one of the professional treatments. Do not take the chance of trying out products that you can buy over the counter.
Once you have mulled over all these things, then you will know if you are ready for that teeth whitening procedure. When it comes to your well being, it is always better to be safe than to be sorry.
