It’s a Sunday morning and you’re sitting there waiting for your coffee machine to stop its various gurgles and noises so you can have that all important early morning cup of coffee. Idly, you glance around your kitchen and notice a spot of paint on the corner of the door. It had been there for years but you never really took any notice of it until now.
You continue to allow your gaze to wander and your eye spots a patch of mildew seeping in under the sink, then you see the ugly brown colour your ceiling has turned right above where the cooker stands.
The paint is faintly off colour, and the only papered wall is beginning to look outdated and faded. You take a fortifying sip of your now-ready coffee and decide that a little bit of kitchen decorating is called for.
How do you go about it though? And how soon can you get started? Now that you’ve finally noticed all the little bits and pieces of decay that you were quite successfully ignoring up until that moment, you can’t wait to get started on your little kitchen decorating project.
However, this is decision time. Just how small do you mean to keep your kitchen decorating plans? Can you get away with just slapping a fresh coat of paint on everything or will you need to go to the lengths of removing the wallpaper off the wall, and finding out what had caused that mildew stain.
Sure enough, it all depends on you and your budget, but if you have the time, energy and money, you’d probably do better, in the long run. to solve all your kitchen decorating problems at once. That would include stripping off the wallpaper, replacing any carpeting or rugs, and maybe even sanding down your wooden floors if you have them. If you’re going to do a complete job of kitchen decorating however then you’ll also need that all important final coat of fresh paint to brighten up your kitchen.
You might also want to think about replacing those old lace curtains as they’re also probably looking distinctly ratty by now. So go ahead and splurge on your kitchen decorating project and replace the curtains and while you’re at it you might want to think of buying a new set of tea towels as well. It doesn’t hurt to go the whole hog when you can.
And when you’re finally done, you can sit back and enjoy your new kitchen and remember that weekend morning that started it all off. You’ll have no regrets whatsoever, since your kitchen decorating project has landed you with a better kitchen than you ever expected.
A feeling of content engulfs you as you bring your new coffee mug to your lips. Life just doesn’t get any better than when you’re enjoying the fruits of your effort.

It’s been more than a year now since you came to your new work place and took over your new office. First of all, you were busy coping with a new home and learning a new job, but now that you’re settled in you start noticing again the same things that you noticed when you first took over your office.
The walls are a boring, drab colour and are looking decidedly depressing. The sun streaming in through the industry-quality blinds is decidedly dingy and the furniture is just about as plain and worn as it can get. You reckon that a decent amount of time has passed for you to start planning the redecoration of your office.
Of course, before you start it’s always good to make certain that the powers that be won’t have a problem with your plans. And remember that it is only an office and you should treat your decorating plans as such.
Painting the walls a snazzy red colour probably won’t work. However, you could brighten things up a bit by repainting the walls a bright and airy colour that won’t upset anyone, least of all you. Then you could always remove those old blinds that have been hanging there since the early 1980′s and replace them with something more pleasing and functional.
On the other hand, if the whole of the office is done up in the same style with the same blinds hanging on every window, your stylish changes might not be appreciated by your colleagues. So think twice before doing something that changes the whole look and dynamic of the entire office.
There are, however, simpler methods you can use to carry out your office decorating project without too much hassle to you and which doesn’t necessarily take too much thought. You could brighten up any room by placing a couple of flowering plants here and there around your office.
However, if you’re like me and you don’t have green fingers or if you compel any plant in your vicinity to immediate suicide, then maybe you shouldn’t bother with plants. You could however bring in some lively pictures and hang them up on your walls. Or perhaps you have kids and they have painted some lovely pictures for you.
Kids’ paintings work well and will show your colleagues another side of your character. But, don’t get stressed out over anything though – you really don’t need a simple decorating job to add to the rest of your worries – an office decorating project should be fun and stress-free.
Remember, your office decorating project should not mean your turning the whole office, or yourself, on its head. It should be something that you can live with on a daily basis.
After all, you spend a lot of the day at your office, it should be a place where you can be just as at ease as you are in your own home.

The cold of winter has got you by your short tails and you’re pfaffing around trying to decide what to do with yourself. You’re snowbound and the only thing that you can think of doing is sitting in front of the fire, drinking hot chocolate and staring broodingly out of the window. The only thing with that is that you’ve already been doing just that for a while now and you’ve have had quite enough of fires, hot chocolate and brooding.
Now you’re itching to do something different, so, you turn to the only comfort you have and switch on the TV. You’re instantly captivated by one of those numerous shows about how you can do up your home. You find yourself inundated with decorating ideas: ideas on both interior decor and exterior decor.
So, you finally find yourself entranced by a program that you would have dismissed earlier and jump out of your chair to get a pen and notebook to jot down all those great ideas. In no time at all, you’ve run out of pages in your notebook and have to leave your warm armchair to go get another one.
Before you get back to your chair, you’ve made a detour around your house and have seen many of the things that you’ve spent a lifetime trying to avoid – the cracks in the bedroom wall, the faint spot of mildew in the bathroom, the paint chipping off many of the walls.
The list is endless and could easily cover many pages. So you dutifully sit down, and alongside your notes on various decorating ideas on interior design and general refurbishing, you studiously note down all the little things that need fixing, replacing or refitting.
The list spans even your second notebook but you decide to finish there, because it’s giving you writer’s cramp, and besides you already have all the pertinent facts to hand, so now you have to set about sorting them into directions that you can easily carry out.

The knowledge that you’ll now have enough decorating ideas and interior design plans and less time on your hands during those long hard months of winter, sends a rush of contentment running through you. There’s nothing like a job well done and the knowledge that come springtime, your home is going to look nothing like its shabby former self.
