The residential community known as Robina, was established in the eighties, and continues to grow each and every year. This fabulous community offers everything that you have ever wanted out of your residential community. It has exceptional schools, from private to public and even a University. The southern most town of the Gold Coast is Coolangatta which includes Point Danger and its lighthouse. Coolangatta is a twin city with Tweed Heads located directly across the border. From Coolangatta about forty kilometers of golden beaches stretch north to Main Beach and then to Stradbroke Island. Southport and Surfers Paradise are almost in between Coollangatta and Main Beach. The Major River is the Nerang River and much of the coastal strip and hinterland were swamplands, drained by this river. Now this wetland has been converted into over 260km square of man made waterways and artificial islands the coastal strip sits on a narrow barrier sandbar between these waterways and the sea. The city is bordered by the Great Dividing Range of which a large proportion is protected by the Lamington National Park and is world Heritage Listed.
The 1846 shipwreck is how Coollangatta got its name. This city shares the river way and fishing fleet with twin city Tweed Heads, which is located directly across the border. The earliest settlers this area were European wood cutters and it is said that this is one of the earliest settlements on the Gold Coast. Thanks to the construction of it’s railway, Coolangatta is one of the most popular vacation destinations in this region.
Point danger is on the border between New South Wales and Queensland. The lighthouse located there is a memorial to the legendary Captain Cook and is historic in the fact that it was the first to use modern technology in order to incorporate lasers into its light to increase the beam. Although Captain Cook is responsible for naming this location Point Danger, there is some confusion as to why. Some believe he meant to name Fingal Head instead, and they are unsure as to how Pointe Danger became the official name.
Tweed Heads economy is based heavily on tourism and some of the popular destinations are Mount Warning m a large Volcanic Shield and of course Lamington National Parks. It has also developed a reputation for being a great place to celebrate New Year twice, within the hour .Because of the change in time zones between New South Wales and Queensland and Tweed Heads close proximity to the border, it is possible to celebrate twice with a little bit of driving!!!
Southport East was the original name of Main Beach. It was known as the urban capital for recreational activities. The popularity of this area became more popular with the completion of the Jubilee Bridge in 1926. At this point many vacation homes were built. Now Main Beach is the location of many attractions including the Spit, Sea World, and a few upscale hotels, restaurants and shopping.
