The West is popularly perceived as America’s last outpost of unfettered opportunity, but twentieth-century corporate tourism has transformed it into America’s “land of opportunism.” From Sun Valley to Santa Fe, towns throughout the West have been turned over to outsiders–and not just to those who visit and move on, but to those who stay and control. Although tourism has been a blessing for man…

I am looking to travel to Jamaica or Caribbean and have been looking for last minute deals that are all inclusive with hotel and air included, any one know of any good ones?
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

How long does it take a 55 gallon reef tank to become established?
It has been up and running for about 2-3 months, has several large pieces of live rock, Halimeda plants, has live Caribbean sand, a Rena wet/dry filtration system, a Coralife protein skimmer, and its inhabitants are:
**This is our first reef tank and I just would like to know what is considered an “established” reef tank.
(p.s. We DON’T plan on adding any coral or anemones)
Thanks for any help
Well, I guess we might consider adding an anemone or coral sometime down the road
after 3 months it will be fully cycled and established ready for coral and anemones. since your not adding coral or anemones its not considered to be a reef tank its a FOWLR(fish only with live rock)tank. i started a 30 gallon reef tank for my gf about 2 1/2 months ago and i just started to add fish. so you are established, down the line you might have a diatom breakout(looks like brown algae) but you may not, its very common. if you do plan on adding anemones or corals because of their divine beauty! you are going to need a coral life lighting system, i use a lunar aqualight on 3 of my reef tanks, in my opinion they are the best. i also suggest adding 3-4 more fish, mainly top to mid tier as diamond gobies get pretty big, so i suggest cardinals, more chromis, wrasse(FOWLR or reef safe)
National Geographic’s hour-long Jewels of the Caribbean Sea is actually much more than a showcase of Mother Nature’s collection of precious art treasures. It is also a glimpse into the tireless struggle for life that makes the ocean depths shimmer and glitter so spectacularly. As wondrously beautiful as they may be, coral reefs are also living factories, vast and nearly timeless. To pass thro…

Are these islands SAFE on my cruise?? So worried about what I read!!?
I was excited and thrilled to go to the ports on our Eastern Caribbean cruise, but after reading a few articles about crime, I am very worried and not sure about exploring. My travel agent said she felt Bermuda was very safe and her and her husband rented scooters to explore the island.
However I read this article: http://www.bahamasb2b.com/news/story.php?title=violent-crime-rising-against-tourists-in-the-caribbean
And I am not sure anymore. I also read the story of Rebecca Middleton who was killed and sodomized in Bermuda in 1996. She was a canadien tourist. I am so freaked out!!
Our ports are: Bermuda, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and San Juan Puerto Rico. Are these places safe? Which are more worriesome than others? Please help I am worried about my vacation
Don’t worry…When you go on excursions you will be with a number of other passengers you will be fine, I’m sure what happened to those cruise passengers was an isolated incident We have been on many cruises and a lot of ports I would not be to happy to venture off by myself in Jamaica. if you are still very scared just stay on the ship. But, just remember you can be raped or robbed even in your own home if you are scared of everything you will never see the world. Go enjoy yourself and add to your posting when you come back and tell me you had a great time
Royal Caribbean- Postcards from the Nation of Why Not- Oasis of the Seas News
Dave wrote about the things he and Marci experienced while sailing through the Eastern Caribbean in Godiva, their 42 foot catamaran. These newsletters have been compiled into his book, Godiva News. Here is an excerpt from one of the entries as they awaited the arrival of Marci’s cousin, Trudy: We waited for Trudy’s arrival at the local watering hole in the marina at Pointe a Pitre. While …
