Entry from: Leticia, Colombia Entry Title: “An amazing Amazon tour” Entry: “There are not many places in the world where you can see giant Victoria Regia lilies, hold an ocelot cat, catch piranhas and then eat them, go caiman spotting, view both pink and grey dolphins, sloths, monkeys or parakeets. However, in the area surrounding Leticia, capital of Colombia’s Amazonas region you can. Leticia is tucked away in the most southern corner of Colombia and the only options for getting there are via boat or plane because it isn’t connected to anywhere by roads. We flew from Bogota and all we saw out the window for the majority of the two hour ride was dense-green-vegetation that stretched for miles and the brown streak of the Amazon River winding through the landscape. We were excited. Letica lays right on the three way border with Colombia, Brazil and Peru and like us, many travellers use this point to continue their journey into one of the neighbouring countries via the Amazon river. Reached downstream is Manaus (Brazil) while Iquitos (Peru) lies upstream. We were doing the later, a fast boat to Iquitos that would take 12 hours (instead of four days on a cargo boat that we heard is romantic for the first hour and hellish for the remaining time), though our rapid ride would be in four days time… Our …
