The world famous Bondi Beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs is arguably the number-one reason people flock to the city during summer. The iconic nature of the beach draws in visitors from all over the world and all over the country itself. Whilst Bondi is Sydney’s most famous beach, any local would tell you that there are many other beaches that are just as good as Bondi but won’t be as crowded or full of tourists.
Coogee and Maroubra Beaches are located just south of Bondi and are for the most part less populated or less populated by tourists. On a hot summer’s day in Sydney however, when the swell is up, all beaches are likely to be swarmed.
North of the CBD can also be rewarding, with quieter and smaller white-sand beaches on the coast of the Upper North Shore. I’d recommend either Whale or Palm beach.
Sydney also has plenty of night spots and local hangouts if you’re in the mood for a few cheeky lagers. The city also has a great variety of pubs and cheap hotels that will cater a decent meal as well quench your thirst. Kuleto’s in Newtown, Melt Bar in Kings Cross, and the Roxbury in Glebe are examples of beloved locales. The Rocks, just north of the city, is an historic district with many interesting pubs that sport views of the spectacular Harbour Bridge.
Food is an integral part of travel. Having the opportunity to try new things relates to local foods as much as anything else.
